The Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum

Celebrates the 147th Anniversary of The Great Locomotive Chase

April 11, 2009. The Atlanta Cyclorama, home of the Locomotive TEXAS, commemorates the 147th anniversary of the Great Locomotive chase. It was on April 12, 1862 the Locomotive TEXAS, manned by an Atlanta train crew, chased and caught the locomotive GENERAL that had been stolen by Union soldiers and spies. This 70 mile epic melodrama has been the subject of many books, TV programs and movies.

On April 11th Model Train Collectors “North Georgia Tinplate Trackers” will be in attendance with one of their famous model train modules on display! Every module has push-buttons which allow spectators to operate various model railroad accessories, including crossing gates, billboards, whistles, and other animated structures.
The club operates its modular layout at children's hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and train shows throughout the year.
There will also be additional special guests to participate in the anniversary of the Locomotive Texas.
