Celebrate the Anniversary of The Battle of Atlanta

July 22nd is the 145th anniversary of the Battle of Atlanta and the 116th year of operation for the Atlanta Cyclorama. To commemorate the anniversary on July 18th and 19th re-enactors from the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, 28th Georgia and 104th Illinois will be at the Cyclorama. Dressed in their prestigious uniforms members will display equipment and tell stories of this colorful period. Women in period dress will accompany the soldiers. All are historians well versed in Civil War history and at The Atlanta Cyclorama to educate and entertain visitors!

On July 19th, in his first appearance since his book, “Slavery by Another Name” was awarded the Pulitzer prize, Douglas Blackmon will give a free lecture at the Atlanta Cyclorama. Mr. Blackmon’s presentation will begin at 7pm and will include an audience question answer period and tour of Cyclorama. The program is free and open to the public but there will be limited seating

Today approximately 16 paintings remain worldwide and only three are on display in the US. Listed on the national register, The Atlanta Cyclorama is now the finest Cyclorama in the world! The Atlanta Cyclorama, with its three dimensional diorama, surround sound, lighting and narration, enables the visitor a unique experience of “The Battle of Atlanta!” As your seats move around the painting our colorful heritage is made possible with narration in English, German, French, Japanese and Spanish.

The Atlanta Cyclorama is home of the Locomotive TEXAS, of The Great Locomotive Chase. The museum also features numerous civil war displays, videos and an excellent bookstore and gift shop.

Located in Historic Grant Park, there are guided tours 9:15am - 4:30pm Tuesday thru Saturday, 12:15pm – 3:30pm Sunday. Admission is $8.00 for adults; $7.00 for military (w/ID), seniors and Atl. Zoo members; $6.00 for children 6-12; and, FREE for children under 6 years old. Group rates are available and arrangements can be made for private receptions, dinners, lectures and meetings.
